The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Feb. 27: Seafood boil

BBQ Heaven at Fireplace Professionals, 1217 W. 41st St., will host a February Pitmasters Seafood Boil from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Guest chef Scott Glanzer will preside over the feast. The first ticket costs $50, with the second for $25. Get your tickets here.

Feb. 28: EDM party

Wileys and siouXciety will host a high-energy EDM dance party downtown at 330 N. Main Ave. beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. Yosef Moon is the headliner, with opening sets by DJ Dante, Rylo Zen and Stac Cato. Drink specials will be served all night.

March 1: Grand opening

Celebrate Sioux Falls’ newest home for makers and artists during the grand opening of The Maker’s Circle, 701 N. Phillips Ave., Suite 155. It will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, and there will be the opportunity to make a craft. For kids, there’s a face painter.

March 1: Mardi Gras parade and ball

Celebrate Mardi Gras on Saturday when Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen, 421 N. Phillips Ave., hosts its first children’s Mardi Gras parade. Children are invited to create a float — wearable or pull — to bring to this family activity. The parade lineup will begin at 11 a.m., with the parade starting at noon. Winners in the float competition will receive a king cake and other treats to take home. There will be activities for people of all ages to enjoy until 2 p.m. Funds raised at the event will support ACE Academy.

Swamp Daddy’s also will bring Bourbon Street to Sioux Falls from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant will offer an evening of live music, Cajun cuisine, cocktails and Mardi Gras magic. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

March 1: Meet local farmers

Connect with Sioux Falls-area farmers growing fruits, vegetables, flowers and other specialty crops at a Farmer Meet & Greet at Prairie West Library, 7630 W. 26th St., from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free event will help consumers identify area producers and a food hub to learn about their products and services. Attendees can visit with 605 Petals & Pines, Blue Sky Vegetable Co., Country Apple Orchard, Quiet Water Farm, The Specialty Crop, Tilford Rye and other area farmers. Take part in Farmer Bingo, and you could win a workshop ticket from 605 Petals & Pines, a trial CSA of four small shares for the month of June from Tilford Rye and Blue Sky Vegetable Co.’s hot sauce, among other items.

March 1-2: Time to reflect

Good NAtured will host the presentation “Relation with Creation” at 3 p.m. Saturday at 921 E. Eighth St. Michael Wanbdi Gdeska O’Connor will offer a presentation on Native American smudging and philosophy. A freewill donation will be taken.

At 8 p.m. Sunday, Good NAtured will host a Talking Circle, a safe and supportive space for open-hearted sharing, deep listening and connection. Whether you’re in recovery, seeking healing or simply looking for a space to be heard, this circle welcomes all. Future Talking Circles will take place on the first and third Sundays of each month.

March 5: Free for All

We take free public libraries for granted — and we shouldn’t. South Dakota Public Broadcasting and Siouxland Libraries will host a free screening of the new Independent Lens film, “Free for All: The Public Library.” It tells the library’s story, from the pioneering women behind the Free Library Movement to today’s librarians who serve the public in an age of closures and book bans. It will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the downtown branch, 200 N. Dakota Ave. Tickets are available here.
