The week ahead: Dec. 4-10
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Dec. 5: Candy cane hunt
Holiday fun at Jacobson Plaza, 810 N. Phillips Ave., will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a hunt for paper candy cane letter cutouts scattered there and across Lloyd Landing and The Falls. Unscramble the letters to reveal a secret holiday phrase, then return the card to the warming house for a goodie bag and chance to win a prize. This Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation event is free; no registration is required.

Dec. 5: Krampusnacht
Only the naughty need worry when the Krampus visits Federal Plaza at Phillips Avenue and 12th Street from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. He will pause in his wandering long enough for photos if you’re brave enough. It is free to the public, and families are welcome.

Dec. 6: 605 Made Holiday Market
Shop one-of-a-kind, locally made merchandise from more than 50 makers in the underground parking area of Cherapa Apex, the original building at the Cherapa Place development on the east side of the Big Sioux River between Sixth and Eighth streets. Admission is free. The new Rivage Oak Kitchen will be selling food, along with coffee and adult beverages. Parking is available in the ramp on the east side of the Cherapa development, along with surface parking throughout the development and nearby downtown lots. 605 Made is co-organized by Sew Doggy Boutique, Knotty Gnome Variety & Salvage and SiouxFalls.Business. It’s sponsored by The First National Bank in Sioux Falls, Active Generations and Dakota Business Finance.
Dec. 6: Bike ride
It’s the first Saturday in December, so that means it’s Global Fat Bike Day. Locally, it will be marked with a casual ride and socialization. Be ready to leave at 10 a.m. Saturday from the west-side Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill, 1903 S. Ellis Road. The ride will stop at the Gevik Outdoor Learning Center, then return to Shenanigans for refreshments and socializing. The primary route is 25 miles of mostly gravel with an option for an additional 6 miles. Click here to RSVP and find details on the routes.

Dec. 6: Light the Night
Light the Night: Xmas Edition will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at PAve, 120 S. Phillpis Ave. The evening will include a video wall and a live DJ beginning at 9 p.m. Free LED wristbands will be distributed.

Coming up: Dec. 11
The Cathedral District Historic Tour of Homes will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, with the opportunity to see the interiors of four houses decorated for Christmas. Tickets cost $10 — Venmo, cash or check accepted — and will be available that night at 202 N. Duluth Ave. It is presented by the Historic Cathedral District Neighborhood Watch Group in conjunction with the Pettigrew Museum Christmas Celebration. That event also will run that night during the same hours and will include horse-drawn carriage rides, live music, decorations and refreshments at the museum, 131 N. Duluth Ave.
