Road Report: Sept. 22, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
I-229 & Cliff: Crews are making progress at the Cliff Avenue and Interstate 229 interchange. Paving is well underway along I-229 on both sides of the bridge over Cliff.

The southbound off-ramp has been paved, and concrete is expected to be placed on the new bridge over Cliff later this week.

Cliff Avenue remains open to one lane of traffic in each direction through the interchange.

All lanes are expected to reopen to traffic for the winter in late November.

Work will begin again in the spring of 2026 to complete the south half of the interchange reconstruction.

All work is expected to be substantially complete in late 2026 and be fully complete in the spring of 2027.

14th Street: Accessible curb ramp improvements continue along 14th Street between Minnesota and Second avenues.

All work on the north side of 14th is complete, and work on the south side of the street at Dakota, Main and Phillips avenues also is complete.

Crews are working on the south side of 14th Street at First and Second avenues.

Work on 14th Street is expected to be complete in one to two weeks.

12th Street: Work began Sept. 16 on 12th Street between Bahnson and Charlotte avenues to allow crews to perform street maintenance work. The street will be closed intermittently while these repairs take place. Work is expected to be complete this week.
18th Street: Work began Sept. 16 on 18th Street between Summit and Spring avenues to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Traffic lanes are shifted and narrowed through the work area on 18th Street, but traffic is being maintained. This work is expected to be complete this week.
What’s next
Rice Street: Beginning today, Rice Street will be closed between Cleveland Avenue and Veterans Parkway to allow crews to mill and overlay the roadway. Through traffic between Sioux Falls and Brandon should utilize the project detour route to 60th Street North via Veterans Parkway and Cliff Avenue. One lane of traffic will be maintained for access to local businesses. This work is expected to be complete in about three weeks.

North Drive: Beginning today, the North Drive bridge over the diversion channel near the State Penitentiary will be closed to allow crews to complete bridge repairs. Motorists should utilize Minnesota Avenue, Benson Road and Fourth Avenue as a detour route. The bike route will be detoured utilizing First Avenue, Riverside Avenue and the existing recreation trail. This work is expected to be complete in late October.

Minnesota Avenue: Beginning today, the outside southbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed between Algonquin and Blackhawk streets to allow crews to perform concrete work. This work is expected to be complete in mid-October.
Arrowhead Park: Beginning today, construction will begin on repairs to the trails at Arrowhead Park. Spot repairs will be made to locations of the existing trail. The northern parking lot will be closed. Portions of the park will be accessible from the southern parking lot through Friday. Visitors are urged to use caution and avoid locations of the park under construction.
Veterans Parkway: Beginning today, the outside northbound lane of Veterans Parkway will be closed between Madison and Paddington streets to allow crews to pave the bike trail. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
26th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane of 26th Street will be closed between Marion Road and Sioux K Court to allow crews to complete curb and gutter repairs. In the upcoming weeks, the location of the lane closure will vary on 26th Street between Marion Road and Sertoma Avenue. At a minimum, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times. Access to homes and intersecting streets will be maintained. This work is expected to be complete in early November.
11th Street: Beginning today, the outside north lane of 11th Street will be closed between Minnesota and Dakota avenues to allow crews to perform utility work. No parking will be allowed in the work area. This work is expected to be complete in about three days.
I-229 & Cliff: Beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the northbound lanes of Interstate 229 will be temporarily closed at Cliff Avenue to allow crews to perform asphalt repairs on the temporary bridge approaches over Cliff. Traffic will be diverted onto the on- and off-ramps at Cliff for approximately three hours. During this time, Cliff will be fully closed to traffic between I-229 and 41st Street. Northbound traffic on Cliff will be detoured onto the northbound I-229 on-ramp. Southbound traffic on Cliff will be detoured onto 41st Street. Drivers are advised to use 26th Street and Minnesota Avenue as alternate routes during the temporary closure.
72nd Street North: Beginning on Thursday, 72nd Street North will be closed from Seubert Avenue to 476th Avenue to allow crews to install water main, sanitary sewer and storm drainage improvements. Traffic will be detoured to 258th Street and Interstate 90 via 476th and Highway 115/Cliff Avenue. Local access to property owners will be maintained throughout construction. This work is expected to be complete in late November.
