Road Report: Oct. 16, 2023
Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
I-229 & Benson: The southbound off-ramp from Interstate 229 to Benson Road reopened Oct. 10.

The rest of the work at the Benson Road/I-229 interchange will not be complete until the spring of 2025.

I-229 & Western: The northbound on-ramp from Western Avenue to I-229 reopened Oct. 11.

The work on the Western Avenue bridge over I-229 will not be complete until November.

26th Street: The contractor continues to make progress on 26th Street between Cleveland and Alpine avenues.

Storm drainage system improvements are nearing completion, and replacement of the accessible curb ramps is in progress.

Milling of the existing surface is expected to take place in the next week or two.

After that, the concrete joints will be cleaned out and patched before asphalt paving occurs at the end of October or early November.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in mid- to late November.

Linedrive Avenue: Linedrive Avenue closed between 41st and 45th streets Oct. 11 to allow crews to work on underground utilities. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
What’s next
41st Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane of 41st Street will be closed from Sertoma Avenue to Kuehn Park Road to allow crews to perform street improvements. This work is expected to be complete in one day.
Kiwanis Avenue: Beginning today, the outside southbound lane on Kiwanis Avenue will be closed north of Fifth Street to allow crews to perform sidewalk work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Minnesota Avenue: Beginning today, the outside southbound lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed south of Algonquin Street to allow crews to perform utility work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Marion Road: Beginning Tuesday, the southbound lane of Marion Road will be closed between 46th and 49th streets to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Southbound traffic will be maintained in the center turn lane. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Cleveland Avenue: Beginning Tuesday, Cleveland Avenue will be closed between Rice and 10th streets to allow crews to perform an asphalt mill and overlay. In conjunction with this work, crews also will replace the railroad crossing near Rice on Cleveland. Motorists should use Cliff Avenue as an alternate route. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
