Road Report: June 16, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Cliff & I-229: Underground utility work is in full swing on Cliff Avenue near the Interstate 229 interchange.

Sanitary sewer and water main installation is in progress and will be completed within the next couple of weeks.

Then, the storm drainage piping work will be completed so grading work can begin on both Cliff Avenue and 41st Street in order to reopen these streets to one lane of traffic in each direction in August.

Pile driving also is taking place for the southbound interstate bridge over Cliff Avenue.

This project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
South Veterans Parkway: Work is continuing on South Veterans Parkway between Cliff and Sycamore avenues.

Grading work has shifted to the west side of the project and is focused on building up the grade so crews can construct a bridge over the railroad tracks about one-half mile east of Cliff Avenue later this year and into next year.

A pedestrian underpass also is under construction, and sanitary sewer installation is underway on Southeastern Avenue.

This project is expected to be completed in late 2026.

What’s next
Minnesota Avenue: Beginning today, the outside northbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed between 14th and 18th streets to allow crews to complete sidewalk improvements. This is the fifth of eight phases of the project, which includes sidewalk improvements on both sides of 41st Street from Western to Westport avenues and on Minnesota Avenue from 11th to 18th streets. This work is expected to be complete by the end of August.
26th & I-29: Beginning today, the northbound on-ramp from 26th Street to Interstate 29 will reopen as bridge repair work at this location switches to the west side of the bridge. Two lanes of northbound traffic on I-29 will be maintained on the east side of the bridge. This work is expected to be complete in about one month.
Recreation trail: Beginning today, a section of the recreation trail at Tuthill Park east of Cliff Avenue will be closed to allow crews to repair this damaged section of trail.

Trail users can access the recreation trail from Pasley Park, but passage near Cliff Avenue will not be permitted.

A signed detour will be in place between Pasley and Tuthill parks utilizing the trail along Southeastern Avenue, Marson Drive, Spencer Boulevard, Slaten Park Drive, Edgewood Road, Otonka Trail and Cliff Avenue. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
