Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Cliff & I-229: Paving work began Friday at the Cliff Avenue and Interstate 229 interchange.

The first concrete pour took place on 41st Street west of Cliff.

After paving is complete on 41st, work will move to Cliff.

Gravel is being placed on Cliff in anticipation of paving work starting in a couple of weeks.

Bridge work also is making progress, with the bridge piers nearing completion.

The bridge girders are expected to be delivered and placed in early August.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in late 2026.

Arrowhead Parkway: There has been a lot of progress on Arrowhead Parkway east of Veterans Parkway the past few weeks.

Work on a retaining wall on the east end of the project has begun, one of the pedestrian underpasses is under construction, more underground utility work is in progress, and some gravel has been placed on the east end of the project.

Arrowhead will remain closed east of Veterans until November.

One lane of traffic in each direction will be restored for the winter before Arrowhead is closed west of Veterans for the 2026 construction season.

What’s next

Cliff Avenue: Beginning today, the outside southbound lane of Cliff Avenue will be closed at 17th Street to allow crews to construct a new traffic signal. Additional lane closures and lane restrictions will be required throughout the course of the project as the work progresses. All work is expected to be complete in late November.

Windmill Ridge & Ellis: Beginning today, Windmill Ridge Street will be closed at Ellis Road to allow crews to perform utility work. Drivers should use 22nd Street for access to and from the neighborhood west of Ellis Road. As part of this work, Ellis also will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between Windmill Ridge and Stoney Creek streets while this work is occurring. Left turns at the intersection of Ellis and Stoney Creek will not be allowed during this work. This work is expected to be complete in about three weeks.

12th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane of 12th Street will be closed between Marion and Ellis roads to allow crews to perform various repair work and overlay the road. One lane of westbound traffic will be maintained in the inside westbound lane. Access to businesses and residents will be maintained during construction. The outside eastbound lane of 12th also remains closed between Marion and Ellis , with one lane of eastbound traffic being maintained in the inside eastbound lane. Work is expected to be complete in mid-September.

Main Avenue: Beginning on Tuesday, the southbound lane of Main Avenue will be closed between Fifth and Sixth streets to allow crews to perform crane operations. Traffic will be detoured on Fifth Street and Phillips Avenue. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.

14th Street: Beginning on Thursday, the outside westbound lane of 14th Street will be closed between First and Second avenues to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs. Portions of the sidewalk in this area will be closed, and pedestrians will be detoured around the work zone. Lane closures along 14th will progress west as the work moves to the intersections of Phillips, Main  and Dakota avenues. Once the work in the westbound lanes is complete, the lane closure will shift to the outside eastbound lane. This work is expected to be complete in four to five weeks.
