Road Report: Aug. 21, 2023

Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

85th & Cliff: Just in time for back to school: The intersection of 85th Street and Cliff Avenue is reopen to traffic!

One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction as work continues on the sidewalk and center median.

All work should be complete by mid-September.

Sixth Street: All lanes at the intersection of Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue are now open!

Crews recently completed an asphalt overlay at this intersection.

Concrete work on Sixth between Shepherd and Sycamore avenues will continue until early November.

41st & I-29: Work continues at the 41st Street and Interstate 29 interchange.

Concrete paving has begun on the south side of 41st east of I-29, and crews are preparing to pour concrete on the north half of the bridge over I-29.

Benson & I-229: Work also continues at the Benson Road and Interstate 229 interchange.

Crews are getting ready to pave the north half of the bridge over I-229 and the north side of the roadway east of I-229.

Utility work also is continuing west of the bridge.

The northbound on-ramp from Benson to I-229 will remain closed until the end of August. Final completion on this project will be in the spring of 2025.

What’s next

The following work begins today:

Marion Road: The outside northbound lane on Marion Road will be closed south of 18th Street to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. One northbound lane of traffic will be maintained during construction. Southbound traffic will not be impacted by this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Minnesota Avenue: The outside southbound lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed north of Algonquin Street, south of Hanger Street and south of Jaycee Lane to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. One southbound lane will be maintained during construction. Northbound traffic will not be impacted by this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Minnesota Avenue: The outside southbound lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed between Seventh and Eighth streets to allow crews to work on the gas main in this area. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.

57th Street: The inside westbound lane and center turn lane on 57th Street will be closed east of Bur Oak Place to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. One westbound lane of traffic will be maintained during construction. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted by this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Cliff Avenue: The outside northbound lane of Cliff Avenue will be closed between 31st Street North and Benson Road to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.

26th & Bahnson, 26th & Sycamore: The south half of the intersections of 26th Street and Bahnson Avenue and of 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue will be closed to allow crews to clean and patch the joints in the roadway to prepare the intersections for an asphalt overlay. Sycamore will be closed to traffic going north and south from approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bahnson will be closed to traffic going north and south from approximately 1 to 3 p.m. Detours will be in place during the street closures. 26th Street traffic going east and west will be maintained for the duration of the closures.

Southeastern Avenue: Beginning Tuesday, the southbound outside lane of Southeastern Avenue will be closed between 26th Street and Marson Drive to allow crews to perform curb and gutter repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
