It’s about to become a memorable week for Cole and Chelsea DeBoer.

The second season for the Sioux Falls-area couple’s HGTV show “Down Home Fab” premiers Thursday, and their new home store Down Home by DeBoers opens Friday in Tea.

“We could not have planned it any better,” said Chelsea DeBoer, who co-hosts the show and co-owns the store with her husband, Cole.

“It’s going to be a big week.”

“Down Home Fab” will feature eight episodes in its second season. Five of the homes featured are in Sioux Falls, and the other three are in Tea.

An episode guide detailing several of the episodes says that in the first, the DeBoers help a single father of three who wants to honor his late wife by carrying out her vision for their home.

Subsequent episodes feature newlyweds with a global design theme, a growing family in a midcentury home, a local romance author looking to update her space and a couple who loves to entertain and wants the perfect party space.

“I was very excited with not only the difference in couples but the styles of homes,” Cole DeBoer said.

“And I’m excited for people to see our dynamic and how we are as people and a couple and working together. We definitely had a lot of fun this season.”

Their own household, which includes four kids age 3 through 14, will be part of the show as they were last season, in addition to the DeBoers’ own home projects.

“Just little things here and there that we wanted to do,” Chelsea DeBoer said. “I feel like when you build a new home, it can be daunting to do everything at once … so picking what you can do later is important, and that’s what we’re tackling now.”

There was a strong response from Sioux Falls-area homeowners in agreeing to be part of the show, they said.

“I think this season the projects are bigger. I think they’re bolder,” Chelsea DeBoer said. “I think it shows a lot more personality from Cole and I. I think we come into the season with a lot more confidence as well, and I think all that translates. It’s such a fun season, and the projects are really, really great.”

It’s also a lot of work, they both acknowledged.

“It is no joke,” Chelsea DeBoer said. “It’s fast and curious, but it is also very fun.”

It’s not uncommon to put in long days, Cole DeBoer agreed.

“As the hosts, we have to create a TV show, but we’re very involved in the project, so before you know it, it’s midnight, and we have to do it again tomorrow,” he said.

They also have a new business to open Friday. Down Home by DeBoers is located in a retail center in the Bakker Landing development just west of the Tea exit off of Interstate 29.

“We’re so excited,” Chelsea DeBoer said. “There’s so much love and work that went into this store, and I feel like there really is such a vibe in there. It’s cute. It’s good energy. Cole and I are going to be working there as much as we can, and we’re really excited to bring Tea something they don’t have.”

The store will carry “everything home-related,” she added, including kitchen items, lighting, decor, rugs and furniture.

“You can shop for your house, but if you need a gift, we have everything for that as well,” she said, adding there’s a chance the store might add some “Down Home Fab” watch parties or other special events.
