Meet the creator and founder of ARTisan: Dr. Alison Tendler

Hello! I’m Dr. Alison R. Tendler, founder and owner of ARTisan Skin and Laser Center. As an ophthalmologist, I have a passion for helping people see the world better. I founded ARTisan with the goal of helping people not only see the world better but also see themselves better. I see every person as a unique work of art and strive to help each person become the best version of themselves.

If you could live with only one treatment for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If you’ve ever met with me in our office, you will know that I can’t pick just one treatment! I believe everything we offer at ARTisan has its place in the quest for healthy, youthful skin. I often refer to the treatment plans we put together for our clients as “cross-training” for the skin. This means that I don’t think that you should just do one thing for the rest of your life! Instead, to achieve your goals, you should incorporate several different modalities for the best results. However, if I have to pick, I would say BBL HERO is a great, easy option for achieving beautiful results. BBL HERO is a newer version of a technology we have offered for years. Its premise is to infuse light into the skin to stimulate collagen production and help with regeneration of skin cells, creating newer, younger-looking skin at the cellular level.

What’s your “must-have” skin care product you use every day?

SPF is one of the most effective products to keep your skin healthy. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UVA rays is a major contributor to premature aging of the skin, including the development of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. UVA rays can penetrate deep into the skin and cause damage to collagen and elastin fibers, which are responsible for maintaining the skin’s firmness and elasticity. By using sunscreen with UVA protection, you can minimize the impact of these rays and help preserve the youthful appearance of your skin. One of my favorite sunscreen products is Revision Intellishade, a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen and anti-aging ingredients. I use it daily as both my SPF and my makeup!

Say hello to Allie Mimmack

Hi! I’m Allie Mimmack, PA-C at ARTisan, and I have been here for almost 2.5 years. I always tell people I have the best job because I get the privilege of helping patients improve the insecurities they have and help improve the health of their skin. It is so rewarding when our patients come back to us and tell us stories about being confident enough to be in family photos again or exuding more confidence in their personal and/or professional life. I struggled with acne prior to college and knew I wanted to go into a career where I could make a positive impact for those who struggled with skin insecurities like I did. I was born and raised in Sioux Falls and went to the University of South Dakota for undergrad and PA school. My husband and I have two children, age 3 and 1, and a baby on the way! We love spending time together as a family, going on bike rides, being outside and playing with our golden retriever, Oliver.

What’s a treatment you can’t live without?

My favorite is the Moxi laser! It is an excellent treatment option for almost everyone as it corrects fine lines, hyperpigmentation from sun damage, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne, tightens pore size and improves texture. Not only can it help correct, but it is also a great maintenance treatment for those looking for a low downtime treatment between other services. This is great for pre-juvenation on patients who are younger and looking for a preventative treatment, and it is a great rejuvenative treatment for those looking for a quick cleanup of the skin and glow.

What are your holy grail skin care products?

I can’t narrow it down to only one favorite product, but my top two favorite products I love to use together! I love bright, glowing skin, and to help achieve this, I like pairing Brightening Facial Wash and Vitamin C+ Correcting Complex, both by Revision Skincare. Brightening Facial Wash is an exfoliative cleanser that works to brighten and smooth skin. It includes antioxidants to protect the skin and alpha/beta hydroxy acids to work on improving uneven skin tone, whether from sun damage or PIH from acne scarring. I love to use my Vitamin C+ after I cleanse. Vitamin C+ is a 30 percent vitamin C that protects the skin from harmful free radicals in the environment — dust, pollution, blue light from computers and phones — that is aging and damaging to the skin. I like to put all of my patients on this product regardless of skin concerns because it is wonderful for everyone. Still, I especially love it for those patients with unwanted pigmentation that they are working to improve. Vitamin C+ is a lightening and brightening product, and pairing this with Brightening Facial Wash provides even more balancing in skin tone and glowing bright skin!

Hi! I’m Emma Nykamp, PA-C at ARTisan Skin and Laser Center. Helping people see themselves better and see the world better has always been a passion of mine! I was raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and I am passionate about serving my local community! I went to USD for PA school and completed my undergrad at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. In my free time, I love to ski, hike and read! You’ll often find me in Colorado or Arizona on the weekends, learning what’s new in the aesthetic world!

Tell us about your favorite treatment at ARTisan!

My favorite treatment at ARTisan is the AquaGold! I love this no-downtime, quick treatment, and I can’t go to a wedding, graduation or big event without one! It helps give my skin a dewy glow, reduces the appearance of pore size and fine lines and hydrates my skin, leading to an airbrushed appearance for all those event photos!

What is your go-to product you get at ARTisan?

I love the Revision Skincare Revox Line Relaxer and DEJ BOOST Serum. The Revox Line Relaxer pairs beautifully with my Dysport treatments, helping relax the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Revox Line Relaxer is also a tremendous topical option for pregnant mamas who can’t get their usual Botox/Dysport treatment. I love the DEJ BOOST because it takes my skin to the next level, helping my skin achieve a luminous glow and nourishing my skin from the inside out to improve skin tone and quality.
